It was Graeme’s birthday this week and he bought in this awesome soccer ball cake. It was delicious.
Oh the places we shall go…

Congratulations Year 3C. We won the Reading Rooster this week with 81 visits to the school reading hub. It is wonderful to see so many students attending our reading hub in the mornings.
This term we are using SSP (Sound Speech Pictures) to help us read and spell. Watch the video to get moving and learn to decode and spell.
Have a go at designing yourself with animal parts. Print, share or email your work and then visit ‘The New York Zoos and Aquarium site’.
Have you seen how amazing our rocket looks. It was restored during the holidays by RTM Engineering
Welcome back everyone and a special welcome to the new students in our class. Hard to believe week one is almost finished, we have been working really hard on our persuasive text writing in English and time in Maths. Here is a great site with some catchy songs you can use to help with your Maths.
Congratulations 2C, for all your effort and perseverance this year. School has finished and we are on a well deserved holiday until 27th January 2015. Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas. See you next year.
Look at our pop-up Christmas tree cards. They were quite tricky to make, but we did it.
Click the decorations to play some Christmas games.
Today we used upside down ice-cream cones filled with lollies, iced and decorated to make our Christmas trees. Many didn’t last until home time! They were eaten at lunch time. They tasted delicious.
Bobby gave us a beautiful framed poem for our classroom. Thank you Bobby. I love what the poem says.
Izzy and Evie have gathered quite a fan club from all around the world.
We are now able to track Izzy the turtle along the coast of North Queensland. Click the link below to go the tracking site.
Tracking Izzy – click
What a fantastic morning we had down at the Front Beach watching Evie and Izzy, 2 Green Turtles being released back into the ocean after being cared for at Townsville Reef HQ Aquarium hospital. Izzy had been struck by a boat propeller and Evie had been attacked by a crocodile. Izzy has spent 15 months in care, and she now has a satellite tag on her shell. We will be able to track her via the website seaturtle.org Tracking hasn’t begun yet. Once the satellite tag is activated, we will follow her journey. At 120 kilograms, Izzy is thought to be more than 40 years old and is one of the biggest turtles to have been treated at the turtle hospital. Evie is about 25-30 years old and has been in care for five months.
On Thursday at 8:30 am we are walking down to the Front beach to watch the release of ‘Evie and Izzy’, two green turtles, back into the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Evie and Izzy have been recovering at the Townsville Reef HQ aquarium hospital. This connects with our science unit – Save Our Planet. How exciting to be able to watch turtles being released in our home town of Bowen.
This week we are looking at global connections. This map shows our global connections around the world.
This week we had some very special visitors to our classroom. On Wednesday teachers from Proserpine State school came to see how we do warm ups and explicit instruction in our room. On Friday John Fleming, who is deputy Principal at Haileybury school in Melbourne and has recently been appointed deputy chair of the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) board visited our school. John is helping the Whitsunday region schools implement explicit instruction. Our visitors were most impressed with our work and Mr Fleming congratulated our class on how well they were doing. Well done 2C.
How fantastic was our school float? The float was part of the Bowen town Festival. The theme was save our rocket. The rocket has been part of Bowen State school for many years and is due to be restored to its former glory. Thank-you to our P and C chair lady and her husband for organising the float. Thank-you to the children, mums, dads and family that came and joined us.
Where in Queensland have we been? Move your mouse over the map and click the blue circles to find out. Click on a red arrow to watch a video. Be sure to click on Bowen and learn about our home town.
This term in Geography we are looking at connections. Look at our Australian map and see who in our class has been on holiday outside of Queensland.

We love reading in 2C. This year we participated in the ‘Premier’s Reading Challenge’. The challenge is designed to help students develop a love of reading. Today we received our certificates for completing the challenge and reading at least 20 books.
Our P and C are entering a float in the 2014 Bowen Festival (1st November). Our float is about saving our school rocket and our theme will be space. Assembly time is 2:15 pm and the parade starts at 3:00 pm. So dress up in a space costume and join our float. We will have a fantastic time.

What a great morning we had celebrating Grandparent’s Day. We had 105 Grandparent’s, parents and special visitors visit our school. Here are a few visitors who came to our classroom. Thank you for coming to see us.
This week we are celebrating our wonderful Grandparents. We have over 90 grannies and grandpas, nannas and pops attending our parade and visiting our classrooms. Our students will then take their grandparents to the library for story time. The day ends with a lovely morning tea for our visitors. We wish all our grandparents a warm welcome.
Sam wrote a fantastic character description of the Toy Boat. He used great noun groups, thinking and feeling verbs and compound sentences. I really like the way Sam used some of our vocabulary words we have been learning in class, in his story.
It’s Books in Homes time again. Three times a year we choose 3 books we would like to read. They are then presented to us on parade in a special book bag. We are extremely fortunate to be part of this program. Take a look the Books in Homes website.
Everyday we practise our Mental Maths skills to help us improve our speed and accuracy. We have 3 minutes to do as many facts as we can.
We have set our goals for the term. We know we haven’t achieved them …. yet, but we will!
Here is a great video showing our Earth’s resources and how we can conserve them.
Wow, our bean seeds are growing really fast. The seeds we planted in the garden soil are doing the best. The seeds in the sandy soil have also grown, but not as well as the ones in the garden soil. The beans in the rocky soil are not doing very well. Why do you think we have these results?
This term we are investigating the Earth’s resources and how to conserve (to help and save) them. This week we started investigating soil. We planted bean seeds in three different types of soil – garden soil, rocky soil and sandy soil. We want to see which bean seed will grow the best and why. Which soil do you think is the best for our beans?
This week we are revising Proper nouns. Listen to the song and see if you remember how to use proper nouns.
In story writing we are learning to ‘show and not tell’ how our characters are feeling. We have to use great vocabulary to show their feeling and actions.
We used as many of these demand words as we could to write our paragraph.
Scared by Ben
One day at home I was scared and petrified. I went and jumped in bed. I went under my blanket. I poked my head out of the blanket. It was Casper the ghost. My knees were knocking, my palms were sweating. My teeth were chattering and my heart was thumping.
Scared by Brock
I think my house is haunted because every night I hear a screeeeeeeam!!! I see ghosts. Tonight is so so scary. I see things. My knees were shaking, my teeth were chattering and my heart was thumping.

Scared by Ryland
On Saturday I was scared because someone was trying to break into our house. My knees were knocking and my palms were sweating. My teeth were chattering and my heart was pounding. I was petrified.
This term, to help us improve our story writing skills, we are joining the 100 word challenge.
Each week we will receive a picture or words to write 100 words about. These are posted and shared on our class blog. Others participating in the challenge from around the world, can then comment on our writing. How exciting is that!
